Special program at college in Tyler selected as potential award winner

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has announced that the Rusk TJC Citizens Promise program will be one of the finalists for the Texas Higher Education Star Award for 2019.

Flyer printing services are often used to make such announcements known to the college community.

Rusk TJC Citizens Promise is an initiative that provides a scholarship of up to $4,000 a year for two years at TJC. Those who qualify for the scholarship need to have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5, reside in the Rusk Independent School District (ISD), and have attended Rusk High School for their junior and senior years. A partnership between the Rusk ISD, the TKC Foundation, The Perkins Family Foundation, the college itself, and Citizens 1st Bank make the program possible.

A selection committee will now determine the winners. The annual Star Awards Ceremony will be held in November, at which the seven finalists and other winners will be recognized.

Executive director of the TJC Foundation and vice president for institutional advancement, Mitch Andrews, said that if the initiative wins an award, it be the first time that the college has been recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The Star Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 22 at the Texas Higher Education Leadership Conference in Austin.
