Special holiday theme shows at science center in Tyler

The Center for Earth and Space Science at Tyler Junior College (TJC) will be presenting dome shows with a winter or holiday theme at the Hudnall Planetarium.

“Season of Light” is a show that tells the cultural and historical rituals practice at the time of the winter solstice from many different backgrounds, including the Celtics, Jews, Christians, Romans, Irish, Hopi, and Mexicans. Santa Claus, Kris Kringle. Sinterklaas, Saint Nicholas, and Father Christmas will be making appearances throughout the show.

“Eclipse: The Sun Revealed” will cover how to safely watch the total solar eclipse that is expected to cross North America on April 8, 2024. The show will also cover why eclipses happen and how the study of eclipses has advanced science.

“Mountain Adventure: Out of Bounds” covers the travels of Torah Bright, an Olympian, as she makes her way through the mountain ranges extending from Antarctica through Alaska. Along with Jeremy Jones, a backcountry legend, and Sammy Carlson, a star of free skiing, they will meet with many wildlife and scientists to better understand the ecosystems of the mountains.

Local Print shops can create Brochures and other printed materials with more information about such shows and other events at the center.

These shows are on daily during the center hours, which are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:30pm, and on Saturdays from 11:00am to 4:30pm. The event will run through until Saturday December 16.
