Special concert to be performed in Tyler

The wind ensemble of Tyler Junior College (TJC) will be performing at the annual convention of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) next month. TJC will be the first community college to perform in a featured concert at TMEA.

Jeremy Strickland, Director of Bands at TJC, said that the college has waited quite some time for this opportunity and expressed his pride in his students.

The concert will last for 50 minutes and will have six pieces. There will be three world premieres of pieces that have been commissioned for this concert.

Micah Bell, trumpet, music, and jazz professor at TJC, will perform a piece called “The Red House” which he composed. TJC commissioned director of bands at Texas A&M University in College Station, Dr. Tim Rhea, to compose “Stump Burner March” which consists of themes from 21 different marching bands. Assistant director of bands and professor of music and woodwinds, Dr. Eddie Airheart, will be working alongside Strickland in conducting the ensemble.

Printing services of various kinds can be used to create programs for such concerts with more information about both the pieces being performed and the individuals performing them.

The concert will be on Friday, February 11 at 4:00 pm in San Antonio. The venue is the Lila Cockrell Theatre in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
