Science center now opened in Tyler

The Earth and Space Science Center is now open for the summer at Tyler Junior College (TJC), including the Hudnall Planetarium.

A brand new exhibit called “Velocity” enables children to explore motion, and makes learning about basic concepts in physics fun. This engaging exhibit allows children to race and roll golf balls on hills, loops, and tracks to allow for experimentation with gravity, friction, momentum, speed, distance, and acceleration. Such exhibits provide an opportunity for local Print shops to create colorful materials with background about the topics for children to take home with them.

Director of the Earth and Space Science Center at TJC, Dr. Beau Hartweg, expressed his excitement about reopening the center and premiering this special hands-on exhibit. He added that spending time at the center is always both fun and educational, and he is looking forward to welcoming summer guests to the exhibit and the other attractions at the center.

There will also be daily showings of the new movie, “Asteroid: Mission Extreme,” narrated by Sigourney Weaver, at the planetarium. Other programs to be shown daily will include “Secret Ocean” and “Robots.”

Hours for the Science Center will be from 9:30am to 4:30pm every Tuesday through Friday, and Saturday from 11:00am to 4:30pm. Ticket prices are $5 for students, children, and seniors, and $7 for adults.
