Three professors from Tyler Junior College (TJC) have received endowed teaching chairs for the next academic year.
The program for Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence at TJC allows professors to nominate peers who show excellence in teaching. The recipients are Dr. Keith Eppich, a professor of history and anthropology; Willace Johnson, professor and chair of the surveying and geometrics department; and Dr. Deb Kelley, a professor sociology and psychology.
Announcements of such distinctions are often made known throughout a college community with poster printing.
Balloons and celebrations took place at the respective classes of each professor as they were surprised by the announcement of this distinction. Vice president for academic affairs and provost at TJC, Dr. Deanna Sheppard, presented certificates and Checks to each professor.
Each recipient of an endowed teaching chair receives $2,000 each year for the next two years. This includes a cash stipend of $1,500 and $500 for their own professional development, which can be used for conferences, equipment, Books, travel, or towards their PDP (professional development plan).
Sheppard congratulated the recipients for this year and thanked the Faculty Senate and the selection committee of TJC for identifying and recognizing the outstanding work of the members of the faculty and noted that these are among the finest educators in any college or university.
