New school district signs up for college program

The Mineola Independent School District (ISD) and Tyler Junior College (TJC) have signed an agreement to launch the Mineola TJC Promise program.

This means that freshmen at Mineola High School will sign the pledge agreements of the Mineola TJC Promise program, and will pledge to meet the standards based on community service, persistence, and academic achievement. The parents or guardians of these students will also need to sign the pledge to ensure that they will encourage and promote these standards throughout their child’s high school career.

The TJC Promise program begins during students’ first year in high school and ends after their second year in college. It offers students from East Texas a way to earn a college degree and achieve their educational goals. Flyer printing can be used to encourage students in such areas to sign up for these programs so that they can attend college.

The initiative was established in 2016 top enable high school students within the tax district of TJC to attend college. It includes the districts of Grand Saline, Winona, Van, Lindale, Chapel Hill, and Tyler. The program to be offered at Mineola is a new one that is outside of TJC’s tax district.

The program will launch this August and the first class will start at TJC during the fall of 2025.
