New garden dedicated at college in Tyler

The new Elizabeth Sweet Peacock Marsh Garden at Tyler Junior College (TJC) has been formally dedicated.

The new garden was established by Betsy Ellis, a local benefactor, in memory of her mother. It is in the English style and includes columnar oak trees, azaleas, and boxwood shrubs surrounding beds of perennials, in addition to multiple seating areas and a fountain.

Such new gardens provide an opportunity for local printing services to create Flyers and Brochures with more information about their design and flora.

The new garden is now part of the TJC botanical garden sites that have been privately funded and inspired by a campus beautification master plan developed in the early 2000s. Other garden sites at TJC include the Elizabeth and Ben Sutton Cultural Arts Plaza, the Billie and Bill Hartley Honor Plaza, the James and Virginia Gatewood Garden, and the Ina Brundrett Azalea Garden.

Dr. Juan E. Mejia, President and CEO of TJC, expressed his gratitude to Betsy Ellis for honoring the legacy of her mother with this new garden. He said this will enhance the central campus and enrich its experience for faculty, students, and visitors.

Vice president for institutional advancement, Mitch Andrews, said that TJC continues to benefit from such generous contributors who are interested in beautifying the campus and believe that its outdoor environment is a valuable resource for engaging students and the college community.
