Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, an astrophysicist from NASA, will be speaking at Tyler Junior College (TJC) next month as part of the TJC Powerful Voices series.
Dr. Oluseyi is also an author, an educator of STEM, a science journalist, a television personality, an inventor with several patents, a science communicator, and a public speaker. He grew up in some deprived neighborhoods in the country, survived on the street, and, using an old set of encyclopedias, taught himself Einstein’s theory of relativity. Despite the obstacles in his life, he persevered to become a global educator and NASA astrophysicist.
During his talk, Dr. Oluseyi will share his insight and experiences about overcoming adversity and pursuing dreams. Each student who attends will receive a copy of his book, “A Quantum Life: My Unlikely Journey from the Street to the Stars,” thanks to the generosity of underwriters.
As the talk will take place in the Hudnall Planetarium, located in the TJC Earth and Space Science Center, Dr. Oluseyi will also address a new focus on space travel. Poster printing can be used to promote such talks throughout a college and its community.
The talk will take place beginning at 7:00 pm this Thursday, April 4. The cost to attend the event is $20 per ticket, with proceeds going to support future speakers that benefit both the students at TJC and the wider community.
