A new Center for Local Government Studies and an internship to educate the next generation of public administrators and policy makers is now being offered by the Department of Government and Economics at Tyler Junior College (TJC).
Such colleges often employ brochure printing to provide more details about such new programs and their specific offerings.
Government professor at TJC, Verica Elliott, said that the center is designed to support local government agencies in East Texas and promote student success. Elliott added that the goal of the center is to partner with local governments and their agencies and stakeholders to offer opportunities in research and internships in local governments for TJC students; to organize opportunities and collaborative efforts for business leaders, local officials, students, faculty, and other interested parties; and to engage in research supported by the institution and provide insight driven by data.
One of the courses will offer an internship where students will experience first-hand the inner workings of public policy and local government. Students will either work with faculty conducting research or be placed in a local government agency.
The college has agreements with two cities that will enable students to follow professionals in various departments in the cities. Students who work with faculty will assist them with their research, carry out their own research, and analyze data and write papers on topics related to local government public policy issues.
