Tyler Junior College (TJC) will be holding its annual Jazz Festival this month over a two-day period in the Whitehouse High School (WHS) auditorium.
The Festival will feature Grammy Award-winning trombonist Robin Eubanks, who will perform with the TJC Jazz Ensembles 1 and 2 both evenings of the Festival. Eubanks has collaborated with many renowned performers and will share his performance skills and knowledge with young musicians from area schools.
There will also be performances by jazz bands from middle schools, high schools, and universities in the area as well as music clinics. At the end of performance by a school group, guest artists on the stage will provide their feedback stage in the form of a masterclass or clinic. Such festivals and their benefits can be promoted throughout a region with banner printing.
Professor of low brass and chair of the music department at TJC, Heather Mensch, expressed her excitement that someone with the caliber of Eubanks will enable the students to learn from someone who has been a distinguished performer for many years.
The Festival will be on Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The performances by Eubanks and the Jazz Ensembles, along with Tyler jazz pianist, George Faber, will be on both evenings at 7:30 pm in the WHS auditorium. The performances are open to the public and are free.
