College to raise funds for arts center

The campaign by the Tyler Junior College (TJC) Foundation to raise funds for the new Rogers Palmer Performing Arts Center is now underway.

The campaign will enable friends, alumni, and other supporters of the college to make the center possible. Poster printing can be used throughout the community and the region to promote such fundraising efforts and their benefits for residents in the area.

The center will be a new facility that will update Wise Auditorium to become a comprehensive performing arts center, and a focal point of the Cultural Arts District at the college. The center will add 16,400 square feet to the auditorium and will host commencement exercises of the college and schools in the area, high school conferences and competitions, performances of the East Texas Youth Orchestra, and many other types of events. There are typically over 125 arts-related activities, performances, and events offered each year by the TJC Cultural Arts District.

Sheryl Palmer and Margaret Perkins, who are the co-chairs of the Campaign Steering Committee, expressed their gratitude that East Texas and Tyler recognize the important role the arts play in the culture of the community. They also expressed their thanks for the support of the Committee, which will enable them to “Raise the Curtain” on the new center.

The center is expected to be completed early next year.
