Amaya Blanton, a graduate of Tyler Junior College (TJC) will be continuing her studies this fall at Texas Christian University (TCU).
She has received a Transfer Chancellor’s Scholarship worth $154,000 that will enable her to continue her studies of graphic design. Her plans are to start a philanthropic program that will help students in high school to pursue creative careers.
Blanton said that her program will match students with a professional mentor. They will have opportunities to build their portfolios, participate in projects, and make connections. She explained that her reason for this program was to be able to provide such students the same opportunities she had at their age so that she could pursue her love of design and start a career.
At TJC, Blanton was an excellent student. She was a member the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and the TJC Presidential Honors program. She was named a scholar of the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise and was one of the semifinalists this year for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
Blanton said she was glad she able to attend TJC in her hometown. She found there were many programs from which she could choose and added that TJC provided a safe environment in which she could learn and grow, which prepared her for the next steps in her life.
