Accreditation granted for childhood program in Tyler

The Family Learning Center of Tyler, which is the home of the early childhood and child development programs at Tyler Junior College (TJC), has once again earned national accreditation.

Local Print shops often assist colleges and universities with making announcements of accomplishments like this so that the community can be aware of high-quality programs for children.

This is the third year in a row that the center has been able to successfully complete the accreditation process, which takes place every four years through the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs.

Professor of early childhood and child development and director of the center at TJC, Amber Welguisz, expressed her thrill that the center has earned this designation once again. She said it represents a great deal of dedication and hard work on the part of the staff and faculty.

The process required the center to undertake a self-study in which its programs were evaluated by parents, staff, and administrators in accordance with the strict standards of accreditation. After this, an early childhood professional conducted an onsite observation. The national commission then awarded accreditation based on the information collected through this process.

The Family Learning Center of Tyler was established in 2007 as a collaborative project of TJC, the Literacy Council of Tyler, and the Tyler Independent School District.
