The Colony has been designated a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO).
This initiative is designed to boost job creation and music-related economic development. News of such accomplishments is often made known throughout a community and a state with flyer printing.
Governor Greg Abbott congratulated the city on earning this special designation. He said that music is important to the brand of the state and is deeply needed in its cultural traditions. He added that the TMO certifies Music Friendly Texas Communities, which work to develop the local music industry, create jobs, and boost economic growth.
The Colony joins McKinney and Frisco as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community and is the 66th city in the state to achieve this designation. The mission of the TMO is to serve as a hub for information on the Texas music industry; act as a communications liaison between government and music businesses; attract music enterprises to the state; and highlight important industry milestones
Troy Powell, city manager of The Colony, said that this designation reflects the cultural spirit and unity of the city that music helps to cultivate. He added that The Colony creates uplifting and memorable experiences for visitors and residents with its many music events such as free concerts throughout the year on the lawn at Grandscape and annual events like Liberty by the Lake.
