Police department in The Colony re-accredited

The Law Enforcement Accreditation Program of the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) has recognized The Colony Police Department as an “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” for the third straight cycle.

The TPCA Law Enforcement Accreditation Program originally accredited the department in November 2014. Agencies in receipt of the accreditation then need to undergo an inspection on site every four years, making this award the third inspection to have been completed successfully.

News of such achievements can be made known throughout the community with flyer printing.

This is a voluntary process and requires the department to carry out a review of its operations, procedures, policies, and facilities. Trained chiefs of police from other areas in the state conduct the on-site review. The result of the review is then sent to the Accreditation Committee of the Texas Police Chiefs Association for final analysis and a decision on whether to award the status of “accredited.” The residents of The Colony should be assured that this independent review demonstrates that its police department is following the latest policies and procedures in law enforcement.

The Accreditation Program has been in effect since 2006 and evaluates how well a police department is complying with over 170 best practices for law enforcement in Texas. These were developed by law enforcement professionals in the state and cover such areas as property and evidence management, protection of citizen rights, use of force, and investigative and patrol operations.
