Communities in Schools of North Texas (CISNT) located in The Colony is planning to expand during the upcoming academic year.
Chief executive officer of CISNT, Ann Wilson, said that the non-profit school will be adding five campuses. It will be providing services this year to Carney and Ethridge Elementary Schools as well as The Colony High School and the Lakeview and Griffin Middle schools. CISNT collaborates with local schools to support students, preparing them for life after school and encouraging them to achieve in both life and school.
Wilson said that her organization works somewhat differently from other non-profits. She that CISNT works inside a school and offers events such as college and career readiness and parent engagement as well as counseling, guidance, academic tutoring, and connecting families with resources.
Wilson added that the non-profit also endeavors to involve the community by supporting these initiatives and asking for volunteers. Poster printing is often used throughout a community asking for such support and to garner volunteers.
With the organization expanding its services to more schools in The Colony this year, it is also hoping that it will be able to partner with local businesses, churches, and the government. The programs of CISNT are made possible by contributions from the United Way of Wise County, Town of Flower Mound, and the cities of Denton and Lewisville, among others.
