The police department of The Colony will be receiving new cameras that can be worn on the body that work with the new in-car video camera system, thanks to a unanimous vote by the City Council to fund them.
WatchGuard, Inc., based in Texas, is the manufacturer of these cameras and leads the industry in providing mobile video solutions for law enforcement.
Chief David Coulon commented that the new system is fully integrated with a police car so that when the lights in a police car are turned on, the body cameras turn on simultaneously.
WatchGuard added that the integration of the in-car lights with the body cameras enables an incident to be viewed intelligently from multiple vantage points, so that an entire scene can be analyzed and reviewed. If any one camera in the system starts a recording, then a change in status is sensed by other cameras, and criteria that have been previously set may begin an entire recording.
Video that has been captured is synchronized with the company’s evidence management system. Viewing can be simultaneous, and officers can view video from the in-car system and also hear audio from the body camera.
Various printing services can be used so that those in the community become aware of such new devices and systems, and their benefits for the community.
