New fire station to be built in The Colony

The Colony City Council recently approved a resolution that would enable the construction of a new fire station.

Fire Station 4 will be located at the northwest corner of Destination Drive and Plano Parkway. It will cost $7.4 million and will be built by Steele & Freeman, Inc.

Environmental and facility manager for the city, Terry Gilman, that it should take about 14 months to build the new station. It will be 22,000 square feet in size with five bays, making it larger than the last one that was built, Fire Station 3.

He added that it will be a state-of-the art facility in terms of ventilation and will have bi-fold doors. The kitchen will be ultramodern and the sleeping quarters will be as comfortable as possible for fireman to rest when they are not out fighting fires. There will also be space for training the firemen on new equipment and other procedures.

Fire Chief Scott Thompson commented that one of the reasons for this station being the size planned is that will be covering an area of the city that is most densely populated and needs to be able to accommodate future growth in the area.

Various printing services can be used so that residents in the area become aware of such new construction and its benefits for the community.
