Korean grocer moves into mall near The Colony

A Korean grocer Zion Market recently purchased the two-level Sears store in the Music City Mall in Lewisville and has some big plans for the space.

The store is 150,000 square feet in size. A spokesman for San Diego-based Zion Market, J.B. Blocker, said the first level will be converted into a Korean supermarket with a food court. There will be a restaurant, 20,000 square feet in size, on the second level, and several professional services from the Asian community will benefit.

Blocker added that the renovations and the store are expected to be completed sometime this year. When finished, many from neighboring The Colony might want to try out the eatery and purchase some special products at the supermarket. The use of various print shops to create mailers for surrounding communities can help to create interest in such new developments.

Zion has a total of six stores - five in California and a supermarket in Duluth, Georgia. In total the company employs over 700 people on a full-time basis with annual sales of $200m.

Manager of the Music City Mall, Natalie Boyer, said this purchase has helped to generate new interest in the mall. There are three new food vendors and a 12,000-square-foot space near Macy’s has been leased by Citi Trends, which is an apparel retailer.
