Triathlon for kids arranged in Friendswood

An upcoming event in Friendswood will be the perfect way to introduce youngsters to exercise, as well as the outdoors.

The Figgy Kids Triathlon will take place in Stevenson Park, and is named after Figgy the Squirrel, who is the mascot of the Keep Friendswood Beautiful initiative of the Parks and Recreation Department. The race is suitable for both beginners and more experienced athletes, and is designed to increase environmental awareness.

The Rotary Club of Friendswood is hosting the event, and the Figgy Triathlon is designed to encourage youngsters to make athletic activities part of their lives, improve self-image, and promote healthy habits.

The event is open to all children, and will comprise a run, bike ride, and swim. The run will take place on shaded trails beneath oak trees, the bike ride will be accessible to those who want to cheer on the participants, and the swim is set to take place in the pool.

There are two divisions based on age, each with an appropriate course for the youngsters. The Council Wave is for children ages 6-10 and includes a 0.6-mile run, a 2.8-mile bicycle ride, and a 100-yard swim in the pool. The Mayor’s Wave is for those ages 11-15 and comprises a 1.5-mile run, a 4.4-mile bike ride, and a 200-yard swim in the pool.

The Triathlon is Sunday, August 3 and both races start at 7.00 am. Organizers of outdoor events like this will find working with banner printing allows them to create appropriate course markers.
