Friendswood welcomes splashy competition

A popular competition is returning to Friendswood.

The Friendswood Rotary Club is the sponsor of the upcoming Rotary Regatta, which is open to both kayakers and canoers in classes from the enthusiastic beginner to the competitive racer.

There are two distances available, a four-mile course and a 12-mile race, which will both follow the same route. The four-mile race will begin at 1776 Park with the finish line at Stevenson Park. The 12-mile course also begins at 1776 Park, and racers will make a turn at a buoy at Countryside Park. After making the turn, racers will paddle upstream to reach the finish at Stevenson Park. Organizers are adding a Stand Up Paddleboard class.

Race day begins at 7.45 am with onsite registration and check-in, with check-in closing at 8.40 am. Participants will begin preparing for the race and staging their equipment at 8.40 am, and the race starts at 9.00 am. Festivities start at noon at the finish line, where everyone can enjoy music, beer, and lunch. A shuttle will be available between 12.00 pm and 3.00 pm. The closing ceremonies are scheduled for 1.30 pm.

The race will be held no matter what the weather is like. If the conditions are severe enough to cause cancellation, entry fees will be used as a donation to the Rotary Club for their programs. Organizers of events like this often use poster printing to create advertising for them.

The 8th Annual 2025 Rotary Regatta is scheduled for September 27.
