What's Happening in Friendswood, TX…

A series of events in Friendswood continues with another fun evening.

The Parks and Recreation Department is the host of the Dive-In Movie series, a warm weather pleasure that takes place at the Friendswood City Pool (Stevenson Park Pool) in Stevenson Park. All the films chosen for the series are family friendly, and people coming to watch the movie are invited to swim, or lounge on the pool deck. Refreshments and snacks will be available. Events such as this benefit when organizers use poster printing to create colorful advertisements about them to post publicly.

The movies began in July, but there is still one more evening for people to get in on the fun, when the series concludes with “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” This 2003 film stars Johnny Depp as the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, and Kiera Knightly as Elizabeth Swan. The movie was praised for its sly wit and launched the “Pirates” franchise which now comprises five films, the most recent released in 2017. Depp, who has appeared in all the films, won several awards for his performance and was nominated for an Oscar.

The movies start at sundown, but the gates to the pool are opened earlier, at 7.00 pm. Admission to the Dive-In Movies is $1, but anyone 60 and over, or under 2, will be admitted free. The park is located at 900 Cedarwood Avenue, and “Pirates” will be shown August 7.
