Recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau For 2023 show that remote workers earned a medium of $77,000 compared to the medium for onsite workers of $51,000. Reviewing federal data, Visual Capitalist found that of the Dallas-Fort Worth labor pool almost 688,000 people or 15.6 percent worked remotely in 2023.
As remote work increases businesses local businesses may be prompted to confer with local Print shops to refigure their marketing strategy to include more flyer printing and distribution, for example.
A similar difference, though not as great, exists in Houston between the median earnings of remote and nonremote workers - $67,500 and $48,200 about a 40 percent difference. Among the five biggest metros in the United States remote workers in New York City and Chicago have the highest median earnings at more than $80,000 with the Houston area having under $70,000 is the lowest. Bill Fulton, an urban planner, in a Substack post explained:
“...remote workers are far more affluent than everybody else. They are, of course, office workers, not blue-collar or service workers, and they tend to be more highly educated.”
According to the Census Bureau, the pay gap is the result of remote workers being mainly white, older and less likely to existing below the poverty line, all of which increase the likelihood of having a higher income.
