The Dallas-based taco chain Velvet Taco has chosen a highly-visible site across from the Kimpton Pittman Hotel at the corner of Good Latimer Freeway in Deep Ellum for its newest venue.
The group started the first Velvet Taco on Henderson Avenue in 2011 on the concept of upscale tacos made with the same quality ingredients and care as fine dining and served in an off-beat, fast-casual setting. The company has expanded to include 30 locations throughout Texas, plus sites in Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Illinois.
The Velvet Taco’s menu has a multi-cultural aspect, borrowing from Indian and Asian cuisines in tacos such as falafel, tikka chicken and Korean fried rice. Other menu options include a strong vegetarian and vegan presence such as beer-battered cauliflower, falafel and Nashville hot tofu. Other options are red velvet cake and a variety of cocktails, of which their margaritas stand out.
Marketing for a new business generally starts before construction or renovations have been completed and may include assistance from a banner printing service.
The future location of Velvet Taco in Deep Ellum is the one-time location of Dave’s Art Pawn Shop, a small live music venue and a coffee house. Dover, the Velvet Taco’s CEO warns that the opening of the new location is far from eminent, “sometime in late 2022 or early 2023.”
Plans are underway for additional Velvet Taco openings in the following locations: Alen, Grandscape and Grapevine.
