Dallas ranks in the top 10 filmmaking cities in 2026

MovieMaker Magazine’s yearly “The Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in 2026” has dropped and the city of Dallas garnered the No. 7 slot.

This is the first year that Dallas has landed among the top 10 on the list of best places to work and live in North America for filmmakers. In 2025 the report left the city off the list entirely, while in 2024 and 2023 it was ranked 25th and 20th respectively.

A surprising number of industries have a continual need for printing services including that of movie making.

Among the attributes of Dallas that attract filmmakers are its “vast green spaces”, public art displays and distinctive skyline; however, there is a financial consideration as well as that of moviemaking talent that attract them a well. MovieMaker pointed out the following in its report:

"The state’s grant rebate of up to 31 percent is a major boon, as is Dallas’ deep crew base: Seasoned crew members go back to the days of Walker, Texas Ranger and the soapy classic Dallas."

In the report The Dallas Film Commission was acknowledged for its free production assistant bootcamp, which in collaboration with the Pegasus Media Project was formed in July 2025. Additionally, the Commission also supports festivals such as the Oak Cliff Film Festival and the Dallas International Film Festival as well as supporting and collaborating with local film organizations, unions and schools.
