Dallas lays claim to be the frozen margarita machine’s birthplace. It was invented by restaurateur Mariano Martinez in 1971, who owned two Tex-Mex restaurants, La Hacienda Ranch and Mariano’s Hacienda. Martinez’s original machine is in Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

The Margareta Mile Cup is inspired by Visit Dallas’ Margarita Mile program of 2018 that spotlighted the historic connection the city has with the frozen margarita.
