What's Happening in Dallas, TX…

Funding secured for Dallas trail extension

According to a recent news release, the city of Dallas has received funding from the Regional Transportation Council for a 4-mile extension to an established hiking and biking trail located in Far North Dallas.

Approximately $7 million was given to the city to complete the 26 miles of Cotton Belt Trail, which will when finished run parallel to the DART Silver Line commuter rail between Plano and DFW International Airport. Cara Mendelsohn, a council member of District 12, explained:

“We were told each city along the Silver Line would have to fund its portion of the trail project, but we worked together to get funding. This RTC funding saves the City of Dallas approximately $7 million and helps complete a vision years in the making.”

Cities turn to brochure printing services to supply them with maps and information on their hiking and biking trails for the public’s use.

The North Dallas 4-mile extension will also connect the north and south running Preston Ridge Trail with the east and west running Marni Kaner Trail. The three trails all together form a 4-mile urban loop labeled the North Dallas Triangle.

The Silver Line passes through seven cities in North Texas: Grapevine, Coppell and Dallas followed by Carrollton, Addison, Richardson and lastly Plano. Testing was conducted on the whole rail corridor in April with service to start later this year.

Construction of the extension is expected to start in August.
