Dallas Centrum building to house new Mediterranean restaurant

Babel, a novel upscale Mediterranean concept from Mo Kamal, a veteran restaurateur, will be opening in The Centrum in late November.

Babel will take up the space left open by the closure of Steel, a restaurant that was open for many years at 3180 Welborn Street and which closed several months ago. In a statement Kamal said:

“Dallas has been missing a culturally authentic, upscale Mediterranean restaurant. With Babel, I wanted to create something that feels personal — a place that honors my family’s recipes, Lebanon’s rich culinary heritage and an elevated experience that guests will appreciate.”

Local printing companies can supply new restaurants with a variety of signage designed to blend in with their themes in addition to banner and flyer printing services.

The new restaurant will be inspired by flavors unique to Lebanon which follows in the footsteps of Open Sesame, an earlier success for Kamal. Opening in 2017, Open Sesame has become the go-to place for Dallas lovers of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food with popular dishing including kafta a combination of ground beef, parsley, and onions as well as pita sandwiches.

Babel’s interior design will bring to mind a modern Babylonian retreat with flowing drapery, soft curves and a warm neutral palette.

Menu details are few; what is known is that Mo Kamal’s sister, chef Zeina Kamal, will be in charge of the kitchen and will be using authentic Lebanese recipes.
