Mike Ziemer, who for more than two decades has figured prominently in the Dallas-Fort Worth music scene, has announced he plans to be a contributor to Deep Ellum's extensive musical history by opening a new record store, named Corner Store Records.

The new enterprise will occupy the space previously filled by Dope Ellum at 2952 Commerce Street in Dallas. According Ziemer, his dream of opening his own record store can be traced back to his youth during which he spent a lot of time in record stores such as Tower Records and Virgin Megastore. Items supplied by banner printing services are an affordable and easy-to-use way of drawing attention to a new enterprise.

Ziemer’s plans for his store include offering eight-tracks, cassette tapes, vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. In a unique spin, his record store will also be selling cables, guitar picks and other live performance equipment. His thinking as far as stocking his store is that brands and artists playing at nearby Deep Ellum venues can simply stroll down the street to restock.

Here in Dallas, two such startups have emerged in recent years, including Deep Ellum’s Off The Record, which like Ladylove in Bishop Arts has supplemented its sales with an adjacent club. For his Corner Store Records, Ziemer plans to include meet-and-greets, listening parties, and album signing in store, as well as listening stations.

Corner Store Records is expected to open in August.
