A two-year, $140 million renovation of the Fair Park Cotton Bowl has recently been started by Fair Park First and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.
The mayor, city and state officials took part, along with JE Dunn Construction, OVG360, Overland Partners and Rise 360 in a groundbreaking ceremony on what promises to be the stadium’s most extensive renovation to date. Existing annual events will continue to be held during the two-year renovations.
Inside plans for the stadium include widening the west side’s upper concourse to triple its square footage and doubling the area of the main concourse including new art deco artwork. Access to the various stories will be enhanced via the creation of new multi-story entries and the addition of 14 new escalators.
Other improvements will be increasing the number of restrooms, concessions, hospitality areas and premium seating as well as boosting the in-stadium Wi-Fi signal and signage.

The restorations will take place in two phases, allowing uninterrupted use during the Texas State Fair in 2024. The 2022 Proposition A referendum will be providing most of the funding with additional sources making up the rest.
The historic look of the Cotton Bowl Stadium will be preserved with additional lights being added to enhance the venue’s iconic entrance. Other outside changes will include two terraces offering views of downtown Dallas.
Renovations are expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2025 Texas State Fair.
