Fans of beers and pups can enjoy a great deal in Austin this month, all while getting to support a good cause.
The popular Barks for Beers fundraise, now in its fifth year, started at the beginning of May. Throughout the month, participants can purchase a souvenir pint glass for $30. If they bring that glass to participating breweries, they will get a free beer.
Just a few days after the fundraiser began, three breweries – Whitestone Brewery, Southern Heights Brewing and the Brewtorium – were already out of glasses.
Organizations that put together fundraisers can use poster printing to let interested people know how to participate and what companies are involved in the program.
A total of 25 breweries in the Austin area are participating in this year's Barks for Beers event. Several of those breweries are new, such as Flying Man Brewing in Pflugerville and Southern Heights Brewing.
Along with giving participants a souvenir glass, breweries are also handing out ‘pawsports’, which let people track their progress as they visit each brewery throughout the month. The typical participant in the fundraiser visits 18 out of the 25 breweries during it.
The fundraiser is put together by Divine Canines, an organization that gives free therapy dogs to people in need. The response so far seems to suggest that the group will not have much difficulty reaching its goal. Barks for Beers is the main fundraiser for the organization each year.
