Free Week is an Austin music festival that began in 2003 as a way to increase business for area clubs in the quieter months of winter.
It soon became a tradition, blossoming from a single location, one-day event to an admission-free celebration across multiple venues in the city, much of them in the downtown district.
Organized by the Red River Cultural District (RRCD), the event brings together thousands of music lovers and hundreds of bands in support of the Austin music industry.
While the concerts are free to attend, musicians and deejays receive payment for their work. Last year’s event resulted in $50,000 in direct support to musicians and creatives. In addition, 19 local businesses and 12 venues were positively impacted by Free Week, while direct local economic investment was reported at $200,000.
Attendees not only enjoy free admission but can also take advantage of special offers from participating restaurants and bars.
As a non-profit, the RRCD makes Free Week possible through funds raised from sponsors and private donations. Businesses who support large events such as this often seek out Graphic Design Services to highlight their products and services.
Free Week will be held in Austin on January 9 and 10, 2026 at about a dozen live music venues. Performance schedules and food and drink specials will be available on the RRCD website.
