One-of-a-kind film festival comes to Austin

The largest genre film festival in the country returns to Austin next month.

Fantastic Fest, presented by the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, will feature eight days of movies from around the world. The annual celebration focuses on fantasy, horror, action and sci-fi pictures with the aim of fostering increased appreciation for provocative cinema.

Organizers of special theater events such as this often require printing services for their branded materials and merchandise.

First held in 2005, the festival has hosted premieres of a number of trend-setting films, including John Wick, Red Dawn, Smile, Frankenweenie and others.

Since the festival has a reputation for launching new films, receiving a positive rating there can later mean success at the box office.

Movie fans who attend the Fantastic Fest will not only see new shows but also meet writers, actors and filmmakers, both experienced and emerging. Notable artists who have attended in the past include Tim Burton, Ryan Reynolds, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bill Murray and M. Night Shyamalan.

In addition to screenings, the festival includes themed parties, meals and other events. Mystery screenings are also featured, where the audience members are unaware of what movie will be shown until it starts.

Fantastic Fest will be held September 17 to 24, 2026, at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar Cinema in Austin. Further information is available on the event website.
