Austin celebrates sights and sounds of Brazil

The music and colors of Brazil come to Austin next month at Carnaval Brasileiro.

The annual Mardi Gras-style celebration is one of Austin’s most exuberant parties, capturing the spirit of the well-known Brazilian festival.

Splashy and often racy costumes, and a lively crowd driven by the beat of Brazilian samba music, have created the popular party reputation. Two live bands will present non-stop music for five hours of dancing at Carnaval. Bruno Vinezo with Samba de Opera and the Austin Samba School will be featured.

The samba dates back to the 19th century and remains one of the most popular music genres in Brazil, while evolving into a number of different styles. The music has been a feature of Carnaval celebrations for decades.

Carnaval Brasileiro will be held in the Ballroom at Speakeasy, the historic club’s newest room. The massive space features two bars, a stage, and the capacity for up to 700 people. Speakeasy is a three-level nightclub in a 140-year-old downtown Austin building. It is highlighted by roaring ‘20s decor and atmosphere within a lounge, vintage bowling lanes, and an intimate rooftop terrace.

Businesses that host large annual events such as Carnaval often have local Print shops providing their Graphic Design Services.

Carnaval Brasileiro will be held on Saturday, February 7. Doors open at the Speakeasy at 8:00 pm and music will begin at 9:00 pm.
