Lederhosen, music and beer at Austin fall festival

The culture of Germany comes alive in Austin next month at Austoberfest, the city’s annual Ocktoberfest celebration.

Presented by the Austin Saengerrunde, the event will offer activities for the whole family. Saengerrunde is an organization that includes a men’s and ladies' choir and the operation of an a large hall and historic bowling alley.

The group was created in 1879 by immigrants from Germany who wanted to gather to party and enjoy singing, dancing, food and beverages, a tradition that continues today with annual concerts, dinners and dances.

Austoberfest is one of those events and also serves as a qualifying location for the Texas Steinholding Championship Tournament. Steinholding is a unique competition in which participants hold steins in a regulated manner for as long as possible to determine the winners.

The celebration will also include bowling, beer and sausage tasting, German music and children’s activities. Kids under 12 can attend for free and enjoy games, face-painting and contests including yodeling.

The first 500 festival attendees will receive a half-litre glass stein to fill with one of a number of German beers being offered. Breweries that get involved in events such as this often provide guests with Promotional Products as part of their brand advertising.

Austoberfest will be held October 25, 2025 from noon to 10 pm at Scholz Garten in Austin.
