One location of Austin Java cafe has closed its doors for the summer, but fans of the small coffee chain should not worry, as it is simply relocating to a new spot.
The Barton Springs location of Austin Java cafe and bar shuttered on Sunday, July 1. The plan is for the cafe to move to Manchaca Road and reopen there sometime near the beginning of September.
The new location is in the same plaza of stores that once housed Strange Brew, another Austin-area coffee shop.
Owners of small cafes and restaurants can use printing services to keep their patrons up-to-date on closures, relocations, and reopenings. The owners of Austin Java released a statement explaining the reason for the move. According to the owners, an increase in area property tax made it difficult for them to maintain prices. To stay in Barton Springs, the cost of beverages and food would need to increase considerably.
The Austin Java location near City Hall in downtown will continue to operate this summer. The company also has plans to open a few new cafes over the next few months.
One of the new locations will be the Met Center. A second cafe will open up in the cellphone lot of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Last year, the company closed its original location, at 1206 Parkway Street, after a more than 20-year run.
