Austin brewery addresses scooter surge with new beer

As electric rental scooters have proliferated across cities such as Austin, some people have developed strong opinions on the subject. One brewery in Austin has taken what seems to be a decidedly anti-scooter stance and has released a new beer that makes its opinion heard loud and clear.

Hi Sign Brewing recently released a new ‘No Scooters Double IPA’. As Mark Phillippe told Austin 360, he is not personally against the scooters, but could not help but notice how many of the dockless e-scooters now seem to be cluttering up the streets and sidewalks of the city. He explained:

“I named it No Scooters simply because after driving to and from work in East Austin, I’ve started to see all these scooters either laying on the street, up on a curb, cruising down the middle of the vehicle lane, etc. and just felt like making a joke about how many scooters there are around town.”

Breweries that release new beers can use flyer printing to let visitors know about the new options, and important details such as their strength and ingredients.

No Scooters made its debut with two other canned beers, and all three new beers are double IPAs. The two other additions are 3-CPO Double IPA and Super Astronaut Double IPA. The three beers are available at the brewery's taproom on the east side of Austin.

Although Phillippe thought that 3-CPO would get the most attention because of its connection to Star Wars, so far it has been No Scooters that has received write-ups in Eater Austin and from KVUE.
