For the first time ever, 3M will not be holding its annual shareholder's meeting in Minnesota this year. The state's well-known homegrown corporation is inviting its shareholders to Austin for its May meeting.
3M is a diverse company with a product line including hospital supplies, Post-it-notes, and cellphone optical film. The company's energy and electronics division is based in Austin and Colleen Harris, a spokesperson for 3M, said that the Austin-based division has played an integral part of the $30bn corporation's success.
The move, according to company officials, is meant to draw attention to the Austin division, as well as give local shareholders a chance to attend and confer with upper management. It will mean a long journey south for any Minnesotans hoping to be present, however.
This is not the first change 3M has made to its annual shareholder's meetings; in recent years, the company has eliminated goody Bags, free lunches, and the opening of its ‘3M store’ within the RiverCentre during the meeting.
Officials are unsure of what to expect in the way of attendance this year, but the venue holds 3,000 people, which was a similar attendance to that at the 2013 event.
Printing companies are stakeholders in events such as this due to the need for a variety of printing products, including their business card printing services, which will no doubt be needed in time for the May 13 meeting.
