The Food Pantry at the Middletown Senior Center has now opened.
The Food Pantry is on Green End Avenue and will serve the needs of members of the Senior Center and residents over the age of 69. It will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and a maximum of two visits per month per person will be allowed.
Its home is in what were once offices in the front for the former Peckham School and is next to the Senior Center. The Middletown Senior Center Thrift Shop occupies much of the rest of the school.
The pantry is well stocked with essential items in addition to treats like M&M candies and related items. It also has a wealth of food for pets and other items for crucial daily needs. Pantries like this can benefit from brochure printing to highlight featured items and other basic necessities.
Arleen Kaull, director of the Senior Center, said the pantry was fulfilling a longtime goal. She added that many have been very supportive of the pantry, which is designed to supplement existing supports. She specifically named the Salvation Army of Newport and the Middletown Rotary Club as its top supporters and added that it is good to be able to use another part of the vacant building for a rewarding and worthy cause.
