A grant in the amount of $50,000 has been approved by Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank for projects in Middletown. Technical assistance will be provided by these grants for design, analysis of feasibility, and strategic planning for projects that support stormwater management, community resilience, and improvements to public infrastructure.
The funds awarded to Middletown will be used for management of the shoreline at Second and Third beaches. The project will take care of challenges to sediment transport, ongoing erosion, and the impacts of the rise in the sea level and extreme weather events at these beaches which are important to the environmental health, recreation, and economy of the town. Drone imagery analysis, survey data analysis, and model refinement are included in the work that needs to be done.

The executive director of Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank, Bill Fazioli, said that they listen to the partners in the towns and cities and hear that what they need the most is help with getting important infrastructure projects started and with the planning at the beginning and technical assistance. He said that this resulted in the creation of Community Project Assistance Fund which is providing these grants.
Additional municipalities are welcome to apply for grants until the money in the Community Project Assistance Fund is exhausted.
