Sustainable clothing store opens in Middletown area

Danielle Sturm and Charlotte von Meister, co-owners of The Nest in Providence, have opened a second location in Newport.

The store carries a curated selection of second-hand, vintage, mended, and upcycled clothing, and may be of interest to fans of this style in nearby Middletown.

The shop is on Thames Street next to The Nitro Bar, a coffee shop co-owned by a classmate of von Meister from high school, Audrey Finocchiaro. Von Meister said Finocchiaro sent the two a picture of the location and encouraged them to rent it and open an additional shop.

The build-out, signage, and display cases were designed by Chas MacBain of Muse Design/Build, who is another friend, while the checkout counter was designed by von Miester. The renovation of the space took four weeks to complete.

Slightly smaller than the store in Providence, it includes racks of clothing and accessories for men and women, two changing rooms, and a display case showcasing items to care for clothing like fabric shavers and lint rollers. Due to the size of the store, the inventory is more intentional, focusing on designer pieces and true vintage clothing.

Such new stores can benefit from brochure printing to highlight their unique offerings and features.

Sturm and von Meister plan to hold monthly events in the future, just like they do at the store in Providence.
