Outdoor center to offer kids program in Leechburg area

The Outdoor Discovery Center (ODC) at Crooked Creek is offering a kids’ class on interpreting Signs left by animals this winter.

The program will teach kids how to look for tracks, scat, and other Signs that animals have been present when they cannot see the animals themselves. Students will learn to use observation skills and think creatively. The instructors will use a mystery story with a snowy setting as a way for kids to develop and apply their knowledge. This will include understanding gait (an animal’s specific walking or running pattern) and how it affects the tracks or footprints that animal leaves behind. After the indoor instruction, the class will head outside to look for real examples of animal tracks and traces.

The Animal Tracks & Traces program is intended for kids ages 8 to 14. Participants can sign up online, and the fee is $8 per person. Directions to the ODC from Leechburg and other nearby towns are available at the bottom of the events page. The ODC is part of the nonprofit Armstrong Center for Community Learning, which also runs a variety of academic and job skills programs for adults and high school students. Nonprofits often use brochure printing services to provide information about their programs.

The Animal Tracks & Traces Program will take place on Saturday, January 17 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Outdoor Discovery Center in Ford City.
