Leechburg firefighters raise funds

The Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company recently held its annual Carnival, a huge, five-day event that is its largest yearly fundraiser.

The Carnival has been part of the department’s history for over 85 years, and in 2022, raised approximately $10,000.

The fire company will use the monies raised this year to help settle the remaining balance due on the new 2022 Pierce Commercial Cab fire engine, which was delivered to the company in January. Currently, $75,000 is due on the engine, which had a purchase price of $380,000. The new engine replaced a 1999-model engine truck.

Tom Foster, Chief Emeritus of the organization, said the newly acquired vehicle:

“. . . is working just fantastic, and we’ve had it out on about 15 calls.”

The Carnival was moved to September from its customary summertime slot to help increase attendance, since it will not have to compete with summer events and festivals throughout the region.

There were some new additions this year. One was “The Tornado,” a new ride, and another was found at the food booth, where firefighters created a new treat – sloppy fries. The messy but tasty treat was served with a choice of either gravy or cheese topping.

As usual, the Carnival was held at the ground of the fire company on Canal Street. Events like this can benefit when organizers use poster printing to create colorful advertising.
