High school will present classic play

One of the most popular plays in history will be performed by students at Kiski Area High School in Leechburg.

Kiski Area High School will present their production of Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap.” The show is now the longest running play in history, and is still packing houses. The production opened at the Theatre Royale in Nottingham in October 1952, and transferred to the Ambassadors Theater in the West End in November of that year. It remained at the Ambassadors until 1974 when it transferred to St. Martin’s Theatre, where it has run continuously ever since. It shut down during the pandemic, but reopened in 2021. It has now run for over 29,000 performances and has been seen by approximately ten million people.

The play is a murder mystery set in an isolated country house where a group of strangers are trapped by a blizzard. The play has flashes of humor and ends with a surprise “twist.” Audiences are asked to keep it secret, though of course it leaked out long ago.

The school puts on their Kiski Fall Play every year, and have staged such productions as “Shrek,” “Thoroughly Modern Milly,” and “The Phantom of the Opera.” “The Mousetrap” will open November 7, at 8.30 pm. The school is at 240 Hyde Park Road in Leechburg. Posters are traditionally used to advertise shows, and organizers may want to contact a printer who will use poster printing to create them.
