Tigard looks for new assistant city manager

A second assistant city manager is being sought in Tigard to help the city manager to supervise several departments.

Steve Rymer, Tigard city manager, said that the two assistants would work directly with him to help run operations, and will be involved in many other activities. He added that the recruitment process has just begun, so anyone interested might want to sharpen up their resumé and Business Cards now.

Rymer said each assistant city manager would have their own area of focus. Kathy Nyland, the current assistant city manager for Tigard, would be involved with innovation and engagement in the city and oversee the information technology department and the Tigard Public Library. The other assistant city manager would be involved in investment and infrastructure. There would be different departments that would be under the umbrella of each assistant city manager.

This position is not a new one, but a change in the focus of an existing one. Nadine Robinson, the central services director of Tigard, will be retiring later this year and has been in charge of the city recorder, communications, the municipal court, and other areas.

The Novak Consulting Group has been hired to take charge of the search and is looking for a forward-looking person to join the team to handle such concerns as homelessness, parks and recreation, and climate change.
