Tigard collaborates on semiquincentennial celebrations

The city of Tigard will be hosting a fireworks display to celebrate the Fourth of July.

During the past two years, the display was a drone show that cost the city $80,000 for 12 minutes. The fireworks for this year’s show will last for 20 minutes and cost $27,500. The result of a citywide survey showed that people preferred traditional fireworks over the drones by a wide margin.

The city will be making other changes to this year’s celebrations, including collaborating for the first time with King City. A classic car rally will kick off the joint event om King City from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. This will be followed by the Walk & Roll Parade and Park Festival from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Festivities will take place in Tigard from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Middle of Millen Drive Independence Day Parade. The parade will start west of Tigard High School and will be 0.7 miles long.

The Tualatin Valley Community Band will be performing from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., during which time there will also be games for children and food vendors. The fireworks display will take place at 10:00 p.m.

Specially designed poster printing has been created for all events, which people can hunt for and take a picture of with each poster. Each submission will get a free ice pop to enjoy at the fireworks show.

There is no charge for any of the celebrations.
