Tigard kicks off the holiday season
The city of Tigard is holding its annual Downtown Tree Lighting ceremony early in December.
The event will include musical performers, free cocoa and cookies, and, of course, the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on a fire truck.
Once Santa arrives, he will signal for the tree to light up. Later on, visitors will have the opportunity to pose for pictures with the Clauses. Performers have yet to be confirmed, but in previous years, entertainment has been provided by such groups as the Tualatin Valley Community Band and the Mask and Mirror Singers.
A slightly different holiday event taking place a few days before the lighting is the Tigard Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Happy Hour. Guests will enjoy appetizers, drinks, and dessert. The price of admission is the donation of a new toy for the Toys for Tots drive and two canned or boxed food donations to the Oregon Food Bank.
Both events help to ring in the season in Tigard. Local print companies often provide flyers and other printed materials to help advertise events such as these.
