The council of the City of Tigard recently received a prestigious honot.
Oregon’s chapter of the American Planning Association has awarded the council its Distinguished Leadership Award for the effort it has put into adopting the city’s strategic plan. This is given to an appointed or elected official who has gone above and beyond in the field of planning for their community or a specific project.
The recognition was granted during the APA’s recent conference, which was held in Portland. Councilor John Goodhouse was on hand to accept the award. According to Kenny Asher, who is the city’s community development director, the recognition is well deserved, as the council was willing to think outside the box when it came to its vision for the future. A Print company can produce Copies of the plan written in plain language for distribution to the public, so that locals can be kept abreast with what is going on in their community.
The plan, which calls for the community to become the most walkable one in the whole of the Pacific Northwest, was adopted in 2014. It has a 20-year cycle and will be revisited as necessary. It calls for facilitating walking routes in the city, engaging residents, making sure that development plans take this vision for the city into account, and ensuring funding will be made available for this purpose.
