Tigard area workshop to share secrets of soil building

Springtime is planting time in Tigard, and People’s Food Co-op will be hosting a hands-on workshop that will share secrets of building great garden soil.

The Co-op will be planting out a variety of crops such as cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, kale, turnips, and collards, and also a variety of greens. Those who take part in the class will learn about the different organisms that help to keep the soil healthy and fertile, and also a variety of ways they can encourage them to flourish.

An assortment of techniques are on the agenda for discussion, and these including composting, vermiculture, the use of compost tea, cover crops, and an assortment of other methods for increasing a soil’s fertility. The organizers noted that these can also improve its ability to retain water, which can be extremely useful during the hot and dry months of summer.

This class is being offered to the public at a price of $25, and People’s Food Co-op members are being offered a rate that will be reduced by 25%. Other discounts are also available. A printer can use graphic design techniques to produce marketing materials for an event like this.

This Cole Crops, Greens, & Soil Building workshop has been planned for the evening of April 10, and it will be taking place in Portland at 3029 Southeast 21st Avenue. Anyone who would like to know more is invited to visit the Co-op’s Facebook page.
