Tigard approves architect for police and public works building

A selected architect and tentative completion date has been approved by the Tigard City Council for a proposed public works building and police station.

The joint facility will be built on 9.5 acres on S.W. Wall Street. This property is next to the Potso Dog Park and south of Hunziker Road. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents of such potential projects.

Otak, the project director firm of the city, and several city employees selected Scott Edwards Architecture to design the building. Brian Rager, the public works director, said the firm delivered outstanding performance as a team and had previously done an analysis of space for the city to determine the best location for such a building. The firm also has a great deal of experience with designing both public works and police buildings with its recent projects being Oregon City’s engineering and operations center and Wilsonville’s new public works facility.

Jamey McDonald, Police Chief for Tigard, said that the current police station is attached to City Hall and needs major repairs and is overcrowded. He added that the public works and police departments are in nine locations across the city so that having this one location will increase efficiency tremendously in addition to saving taxpayers money in the long run.

Voting on a bond for the facility will take place in May 2026.
